India's Commitment to Dialogue in Ukraine

At the United Nations, India reiterated its belief that dialogue and diplomacy are essential for resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The country expressed its readiness to assist in diplomatic initiatives aimed at achieving a swift resolution to the crisis.

These statements were made by India's UN ambassador, P Harish, during a General Assembly discussion on the situation in Ukraine's temporarily occupied territories. He emphasized India's concern regarding the conflict, stating, "The loss of innocent lives is intolerable, and a resolution cannot be achieved through warfare." He highlighted that a prompt conclusion to the conflict is beneficial for all parties involved, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's sentiment that "This is not an era of war."

Ambassador Harish noted that Prime Minister Modi is in regular communication with President Putin, President Zelensky, and European leaders regarding the situation. He expressed confidence that these diplomatic efforts could lead to an end to the conflict and pave the way for enduring peace.

He stressed that India has consistently maintained that dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable paths to resolving the conflict, regardless of how challenging this may seem. "The active involvement and dedication of all parties are vital for achieving lasting peace," he remarked.

Ambassador Harish acknowledged recent positive developments, stating, "We supported the Summit meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin and appreciate the progress made there. We also recognize the subsequent diplomatic engagements by the US President with the Ukrainian President and European leaders in Washington, DC."

He expressed regret over the collateral impacts of the conflict, particularly the rising fuel prices affecting the global community, especially nations in the Global South, which are struggling to cope. He emphasized the importance of amplifying their voices and addressing their legitimate concerns.
